DIY Rosette Headwrap/Earwarmer

This is a quick little gift you can whip up in about 30 minutes. Perfect to give to a mommy who doesn’t have time to do her hair 🙂  I made it using some vintage scraps, and it is easy sewing.  Here’s what you will need:

  • Measuring tape
  • 4″ x {your head measurement – 6″} rectangle of patterned fabric (mine was 4″x16″)
  • 2 “triangle” pieces of patterned fabric, use this pattern
  • One piece of solid warm fabric – I used velveteen, but flannel or fleece would work well too
  • Sewing machine/thread
  • scissors
  • needle and thread
  • Step 1: Measure your head where the wrap will sit (start at your forehead and down to the nape of your neck). Then, cut the rectangle and two “triangles” out of the patterned fabric.
  • Step 2: Sew one triangle to each 4″ side of the rectangle – right sides together. Press the seams open.
  • Step 3: Lay the sewn piece on top of the solid fabric – wrong sides together.  Trace around the sewn piece and then cut that shape out of the solid.
  • Step 4: Pin them right sides together and stitch around, using a 3/8″ seam – leave about a 3″ opening for turning.
  • Step 5: Clip the corners like this:

Then, flip it right sides out and press well, turning the edges of the opening under as you press.
  • Step 6: Top stitch the opening closed.
  • Step 7: Make some lovely little fabric rosettes.  You can find a tutorial for that here.
  • Step 8: Hand stitch them onto the headwrap and tie around your head.  Enjoy!!

stay warm,
